How Does It Works?

The Unfiltered news works on a small process. The data comes from the Google News and they scan the global stories for individual topics across all languages, then count the number of times a topic is mentioned each day. And they categorize by the location of the publication mentioning that topic. If it’s really an important news, but may not be covered from your location, then you can read them from Unfiltered news. The result from the above mentioned process is cross- lingual signal for who is saying what in the world’s media. At this time, only top 100 topics for each location are shown. As this is a startup and it is still in its beta phase, so now only top 100. But, for the first time users the visualization of the Unfiltered news is going to be little confusing because the home page contains only the circles and a hamburger button. The above shown picture is the home page of the Unfiltered news where whole world is shown as dots. Tap anywhere on the map and you will taken to that location. You can find a difference that few circles are larger in size and some are smaller. The size of a given circle is determined by the total number of topic mentions from publishers located in a given location, weighted by the population of that location. On the global view, this count includes all topics. When a topic is selected, the circles represent the total number of times that a selected topic is covered. The aim of the developers of this app is to provide a picture of what the world’s population is reading in their local news.

You can also find that the sizes of the words in a circle are also different. Yes, they are different because the size of a word represents the number of times that a topic has been mentioned in the day’s news within a given country. If the number is more, then the size of that topic is also large. Less size means less number of times that a topic has been mentioned.

After selecting a region and then you can select the topics just by clicking on them. The news related to that word or a topic are shown in the timeline which is present at the right side of the screen. You can arrange the home page in the list view in order to avoid the you can enjoy a different type of animation. Still, you don’t understand the confusion. You can select that option in the menu which turns up from the Hamburger button on the top left. But, the Map view is a little bit more interesting than the list view because whole thing. You can have a Quick Tour in the app and there is an option of Quick Tour.
